Day to Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, a Shafino representative will warmly welcome you. Transfer to your hotel for a pre-climb briefing, gear check, and time to rest before the big adventure begins.

Start your trek at Londorosi Gate, hiking through lush rainforest. Keep your eyes open for colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife as you ascend to Mti Mkubwa Camp — your first night under the African sky.

  • Hiking Distance: ~7 km (3–4 hours)

  • Elevation Gain: ~650m

  • Habitat: Rainforest

Cross the Shira Plateau, one of the oldest volcanic formations on Kilimanjaro. Enjoy panoramic views and a change in vegetation, moving into heath and moorland zones.

  • Hiking Distance: ~16 km (8–10 hours)

  • Elevation Gain: ~1,100m

  • Habitat: Heather and moorland

Today is key for acclimatization: you’ll climb high to Lava Tower and then descend to Barranco Camp to sleep low. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to altitude.

  • Hiking Distance: ~10 km (6–7 hours)

  • Elevation Range: 3,850m → 4,600m → 3,950m

  • Habitat: Alpine desert, moorland

Today is key for acclimatization: you’ll climb high to Lava Tower and then descend to Barranco Camp to sleep low. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to altitude.

  • Hiking Distance: ~10 km (6–7 hours)

  • Elevation Range: 3,850m → 4,600m → 3,950m

  • Habitat: Alpine desert, moorland

Trek to Barafu Camp, your high camp. After lunch and rest, prepare mentally and physically for the midnight summit attempt. Early dinner, early sleep!

  • Hiking Distance: ~4 km (3–4 hours)

  • Elevation Gain: ~680m

  • Habitat: Alpine desert

Your summit day! Begin before midnight, reaching Stella Point at sunrise, then push to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. Celebrate, take photos, and descend safely to Mweka Camp.

  • Hiking Distance: ~5 km up (7–8 hours), ~12 km down (4–6 hours)

  • Elevation: 4,673m → 5,895m → 3,100m

  • Habitat: Arctic summit, moorland descent

After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificates and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha — where a hot shower and celebration await!

  • Hiking Distance: ~10 km (3–4 hours)

  • Elevation Loss: ~1,450m
